A Journey of Faithfulness Through Obedience

When I was thinking about what I could share with you, the topic of faithfulness stood out. We read so many stories during our lives; and I pray that this story encourages you today. I thought of Abraham and his journey of following God and hearing His voice, and I have been reflecting on Abraham’s faithfulness. He started out on a journey taking steps with his family to places that he had never been before. Abraham’s guidance came from listening to God’s voice. In one part of the story, Abraham is asked to do something that requires him to trust God regarding his son. As you read this response to Abraham, try to think how much trust Abraham had in God’s plan. “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. … And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed – all because you have obeyed me.” – Genesis 22:16,17a,18

I encourage you to read more from the story of Abraham. He journeyed from place to place, where he encountered various challenges and difficulties. Each time Abraham would listen to God’s voice and faithfully obey what God said. As I reflect on Abraham’s story, I can’t help but remember the story of Jesus as He prepared to go to the cross. We read that, “He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Luke 22:41-42

Faithfulness is a goal to strive for– it is not something we can claim for ourselves, but rather it comes from seasons of obedience and actions of following God. This is how Abraham exemplified faithfulness to God, and how others will see your faithfulness to God in your life too. No matter what your life looks like, you can choose today to begin the journey of faithfulness to God and obeying what He commands. Wouldn’t it be amazing for others to see God in your life and be encouraged by you, just as we have been by Abraham? Ask God to use you in the lives of others and to be an example for them to say, “They were faithful to the promise they had from God, and they showed great faithfulness on their journey of walking with Jesus.” Today, choose to live a life of faithfulness to Jesus and obey what He has spoken to your heart for your life.

Keep going, its a beautiful journey ahead.
